New book to be co-edited by Nivedita Mani & Gert Westermann (Lancaster University)

Nivedita Mani and Gert Westermann have recently been successful in a book deal with Psychology Press in their "Current Issues in Developmental Psychology" series. The book, titled "Early word learning", will include chapters from experts in the field of language acquisition whose research takes novel approaches to examining the processes underlying word learning in young children. The proposed edition will consider word learning to be a continuous learning process going from the early stages of the child extracting word-like units from a fluent speech stream to associating these word-like units with meaning to refining her representations of these words such that she comes to recognise these words in the face of natural variability and uncertainty and will include chapters charting the child's progress through these different stages.
