In cooperation with the Anesthesiology Clinic (AINS) at the University of Göttingen Hospital, which includes departments in Anesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Care Medicine, and Pain-Management Medicine, we explore communication processes between physicians and patients.

In this project we focus on the pre-anesthetic interview, which is essential for pre-anesthetic evaluation, anesthetic planning, informed consent and the anesthesiologist–patient relationship, and contributes to reducing a patient’s pre-operative anxiety.

Our data collection and analysis methods (behavioural coding of video recorded conversations between patient and physician) enable us to evaluate if and how communication related factors are linked to a patient´s anxiety status.
